Kesehatan / [INFO] The 5 dirtiest foods
« on: 17 December 2008, 09:44:17 PM »
source http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/the-5-dirtiest-foods-327375/

How would you rate your food-safety IQ? I know someone who never washes their fruits and vegetables after bringing them home from the market because he believes that they're washed at the store. Um, no. Read on to learn about what some call the "5 dirtiest foods" and for a food safety wake-up call...

****
The dirty food list, according to this fascinating piece I found over at AOL Health include the following:

Eggs: While most eggs aren't going to make anyone sick, experts estimate that more than 2 million germy eggs (as in Salmonella infected) get into circulation each year, sickening 660,000 people each year and killing as many as 300. Um, maybe we should think twice about eating that cookie dough (or, judging by our conversation on Vitamin G, perhaps you'd rather take your chances?). How to buy cleaner eggs? Make sure the carton says they're pasteurized and never buy a dozen that contains any obvious cracks or leaks.

Peaches: They're pretty, but that's just skin-deep. Health experts warn that peach skins are doused in pesticides before they make it to grocery store to prevent blemishes. On average, a peach can contain as many as nine different pesticides, according to the USDA. This is one fruit you might want to buy organic (which may have blemishes, but won't have pesticides). (Here's How Peaches Can Help You Build Muscle.)

Pre-packaged salad mixes: Surprise! "Triple washed" doesn't mean germ-free say experts. Pathogens may still be lurking so be sure to wash your greens before tossing in your salad bowl. (Don't make these salad mistakes!)

Melons: Get ready to be grossed out. According to the article, "when the FDA sampled domestically grown cantaloupe, it found that 3.5 percent of the melons carried Salmonella and Shigella, the latter a bacteria normally passed person-to-person. Among imported cantaloupe, 7 percent tested positive for both bugs." Ewww. Your best bet: Scrub your melons with a little mild dish soap and warm water before slicing. (Stay healthy with these delicious winter fruits!)

Scallions: Blamed for several recent outbreaks of Hepatitis A, and other bugs like the parasite Cryptosporidium, Shigella and Salmonella, scallions present a food safety problem because of the way they grow (in the dirt) and lack of proper washing. While you can't control what happens in restaurant kitchens, you can give them a super-duper washing at home before cooking with.

Other dirty foods in the article include chicken, ground beef and turkey, raw oysters, and cold cuts. Click here to read 5 more.

The bottom line: Don't be afraid to eat these foods, just be aware of the precautions you need to take before enjoying them. Most food-borne illnesses are the result of hygiene carelessness somewhere in the food chain. Protect yourself!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your food safety awareness and diligence? Do you wash all your produce? How about pre-packaged salad mixes? And what about melons? Do any of you wash the exterior with soap and water before slicing. I do, and I'm patting myself on the back right now.

Teknologi Informasi / [Programming] [Algoritma] Genetic Algorithm
« on: 17 December 2008, 08:23:39 PM »
permulaan ini dulu deh

A genetic algorithm (GA) is a search technique used in computing to find exact or approximate solutions to optimization and search problems. Genetic algorithms are categorized as global search heuristics. Genetic algorithms are a particular class of evolutionary algorithms (also known as evolutionary computation) that use techniques inspired by evolutionary biology such as inheritance, mutation, selection, and crossover (also called recombination).

Kesehatan / [INFO] Injectable artificial bone developed
« on: 17 December 2008, 02:20:46 PM »

Source : http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/news/2422/injectable-liquid-bone-developed

SYDNEY: Artificial 'injectable bone' that flows like toothpaste, and hardens in the body, has been invented by British scientists.

This new regenerative medicine technology provides a scaffold for the formation of blood vessels and bone tissue, and can also deliver stem cells directly to the site of bone repair, say the researchers.

"Injectable bone is the first delivery system for stem cells and growth factors that forms a material with the strength of a bone," said Robin Quirk, a pharmacist and co-founder of RegenTec – the University of Nottingham, In England, spin-off company commercialising the technology.

No more surgery

Quirk said he hopes that injectable bone might one day reduce or eliminate the need for bone-grafts to repair skeletal defects and fractures – which often require painful invasive surgery.

Not only does the technique reduce the need for dangerous surgery, it also avoids damaging neighbouring areas, said Kevin Shakesheff, a tissue engineer and drug delivery pharmacist at Nottingham who masterminded the breakthrough.

The technology's superiority over existing alternatives is the novel hardening process and strength of the bond, said Quirk. Older products heat-up as they harden, killing surrounding cells, whereas 'injectable bone' hardens at body temperature – without generating heat – making a very porous, biodegradable structure.

"Because the material does not heat-up, surrounding bone cells can survive and grow," added Shakesheff.

The invention emerged from a combination of research into implant able scaffolds that encourage new bone to grow and new techniques to deliver stem cells and drugs to specific sites. These studies spawned the new concept of an injectable matrix as the building block for tissue regeneration, said the researchers.

Stimulate tissue repair

Quirk told Cosmos Online that the next generation of technologies based on this method will focus more on the therapeutic drugs and growth factors that can be delivered alongside the injectable bone to stimulate tissue repair.

The idea of bone cement has been considered for some years and similar compounds are being trialed in Australia, commented Bruce Foster, an orthopaedic surgeon and chairman of the Australian Bone Growth Foundation in Adelaide. Another "new product capable of delivering stem cells is undergoing trials in Melbourne," he said.

The British team behind the injectable bone won the Medical Futures Innovation Award last week and are now working towards clinical trials. They expect the product to be available in the U.S. within 18 months.

Studi Sutta/Sutra / Anak Gadis Penenun
« on: 13 December 2008, 02:27:05 PM »

================================================================

1. Siapakah sebenarnya gadis tersebut  :-?

2. dan Apa yang sebenarnya ditanyakan sang Buddha ???

3. pentingnya bermeditasi terhadap kematian, apakah maksudnya meditasi objek asubha ???

4. apa itu Sotapattiphala ???

Buddhisme untuk Pemula / Kesa Dhatu
« on: 13 December 2008, 01:07:30 PM »
